What I Did
For this project, I optimized titles and meta descriptions for two webpages of Founders’ Dairy to improve their search engine ranking and user engagement. The goal was to ensure that the titles were concise, descriptive, and keyword-rich, while the meta descriptions were engaging and informative to encourage clicks.
I worked on two pages:
Cheese Product Page – Focused on highlighting the variety of cheeses, especially their best-selling smoked cheddar, and pairing suggestions.
Recipes Page – Emphasized the Founders’ family legacy and featured signature recipes using their products.
Reviewed Existing Titles & Descriptions – Analyzed the current SEO elements and noted areas for improvement.
Researched SEO Best Practices – Ensured titles were under 60 characters and meta descriptions under 160 characters while including relevant keywords.
Refined the Titles – Kept them clear, engaging, and brand-aligned, ensuring they included the company name for consistency.
Rewrote Meta Descriptions – Focused on making them more detailed and enticing, incorporating power words and emphasizing what makes the products special.
Ensured Readability & Appeal – Balanced SEO needs with a natural, engaging tone to make the pages appealing to users and search engines alike.
🔴 Titles Were Too Generic at First
Issue: My initial titles were too simple and didn’t highlight what made the products unique.
Lesson: A strong title should be descriptive yet concise, using words that immediately tell users why they should click.
🔴 Meta Descriptions Lacked Action-Driven Language
Issue: My first drafts simply described the pages without compelling action words.
Lesson: Using words like "Explore," "Try," and "Pair" makes the descriptions more engaging and conversion-friendly.
🔴 Keyword Overstuffing in Meta Descriptions
Issue: I initially crammed too many keywords, making the text feel unnatural.
Lesson: SEO isn’t just about keywords—it’s about user experience. The descriptions should flow naturally while incorporating relevant terms.
✅ Made Titles More Descriptive – Added specific product highlights and brand identity to make them more compelling.
✅ Refined Meta Descriptions – Focused on clear, engaging copy that guides users to click while keeping it concise and informative.
✅ Used Action-Oriented Language – Included call-to-action phrases to increase engagement and improve click-through rates.
✅ Kept It Natural – Ensured keywords blended seamlessly into the copy rather than being forced.
This project helped me understand SEO fundamentals better, especially how to optimize webpage content for both search engines and users. I learned that small changes in wording can have a big impact on search rankings and engagement. This experience has made me more confident in creating high-quality SEO content that is both effective and user-friendly.
