What I Did
For this project, I created two product detail pages for an e-commerce store, Bath EcoShop, using Shopify. The goal was to ensure that each page had a compelling product description, key features, technical details, and SEO-friendly elements to enhance discoverability and user engagement.
The two products I worked on were:
Organic Cotton Bath Rug – Focused on its eco-friendly materials, comfort, and durability.
Bamboo Cotton Blend Bath Towel – Highlighted its softness, absorbency, and quick-drying features.
Product Titles & Descriptions – Crafted clear, concise, and engaging titles that included important product attributes (material, purpose, and benefits).
Bullet Points for Key Features – Ensured scannability by listing unique selling points in a structured format.
Technical Specifications – Included material composition, size, weight (GSM), and origin to build trust and transparency for customers.
SEO Optimization –
Used relevant keywords to improve search rankings.
Wrote engaging, benefit-driven product descriptions that encouraged purchases.
Created SEO-friendly alt text for product images to enhance accessibility and search visibility.
Shopify Product Listing Process – Followed step-by-step actions in Shopify to ensure each listing was correctly formatted and visually appealing.
🔴 Descriptions Were Initially Too Generic
Issue: My first drafts focused too much on the product's physical attributes rather than its benefits for the customer.
Lesson: I learned that effective product descriptions need to be benefit-driven, showing how the product improves the customer’s life.
🔴 Overloading Technical Details in the Main Description
Issue: I initially placed too many technical details in the product description, making it overwhelming.
Lesson: Instead, I moved technical specifications to a separate section, making the content easier to digest.
🔴 Missed Some Key SEO Opportunities
Issue: At first, I did not include strong keywords in the title and meta description.
Lesson: I revised them to include high-impact keywords like “organic cotton,” “luxurious feel,” and “quick-drying” to improve search engine ranking and visibility.
🔴 Alt Text Was Too Vague
Issue: My initial alt text descriptions were too generic, such as "bath towel in beige."
Lesson: I improved them by making them more descriptive (e.g., "Soft bamboo cotton blend bath towel in beige, featuring a textured weave and ultra-absorbent design").
✅ Refined Product Descriptions – Focused on benefits first, features second, ensuring a more compelling customer experience.
✅ Optimized for SEO – Used stronger keywords in the title, meta description, and alt text to enhance search rankings.
✅ Balanced Readability & Detail – Kept descriptions engaging and scannable by using bullet points and structured formatting.
✅ Improved Accessibility – Created clear, informative alt text to help visually impaired users and boost SEO.
This project reinforced my ability to craft high-quality product pages that are both engaging for customers and optimized for search engines. I learned that the best product listings combine storytelling, SEO, and usability to increase conversions and enhance the online shopping experience.
